Who is in our community?

Today we had the honor of having Mrs. Fritz share her career with our class.  She is a musician and teacher. She shared with us that she teaches children under the age of five, music.  She also shared the many tools that she uses to teach music.  
Mrs. Fritz shared that without music our world would be boring.  The class agreed.  "Can you imagine the movie Frozen without music?"  The class agreed, it would be boring.  
What does music teach us? Words, helps us to dance, helps with feelings, and we all agreed, music is fun!

In the Groove!

It seems like all of our Rainbow Valley citizens are getting in the "groove!"  Everyone wore a smile to school!  Today we started our day learning two new songs on our Smartboard calendar.  Ask your student to share these with you.  We also had our first day of music and PE.  We read two stories, the first being A House For Hermit Crab, which we followed with a picture of our own homes in our writing Journals.  We learned how to share our journals with our friends - that was fun!  At the closing of our day, Mrs. Stinard read I Don't Want to Go to School by Stephanie Blake.  I do believe it was a fun day not only for the students but for the teachers as well:)


Reminders for parents:  Please remember to check blue folders daily and return them to school.  This is our way of communicating with you.  Also please initial each day so that we know that you have checked your child's folder each night.   We do have snack time everyday, so please remember to pack your child a light snack.

Patterning In Music

Ask your child about patterns that they enjoyed creating in music today with Mrs. Gordon. Mrs. Gordon's lessons help to reinforce our math and reading skills.
Today we also enjoyed writing facts as we continue to learn about writing non-fiction.

Wonderful Wednesday

Today we enjoyed sharing our writing as authors.  We learned about how to speak loudly and clearly.  As an audiance we learned how to sit, listen,learn, and how to respond after hearing an author read their story.  We clapped, and we asked questions or shared comments that began with " I want to know..." or "I found out..."
Parents, you can help reinforce this at home by asking your child to read back to you what he or she has written while speaking loudly and clearly.  One of our kindergarten SOL's is using appropriate oral language.
During music with Mrs. Gordan the children learned how to sing and spell three letter words like, cat, bat, pot, dog,log, hog and wait...wait HIPPOPOTAMUS!  Ask your child to sing it for you.
They also review their patriotic songs.

A Day Filled With Learning Through Movement and Song

We had an exciting day in kindergarten the children enjoyed experiementing to find out what creates a shadow using flashlights and various objects.
Then, we enjoyed yoga and exercise during P.E. The children practiced counting.
Next, they enjoyed free choice writing time with quiet "thinking" music being played in the classroom.
Finally, Mrs. Gordon our wonderful music teacher had the children use scarves and create movements.
It was a day filled with energy, thinking, and learning.
