Seven Habits Of Happy Kids

Today we started learning about the 7 Habits.
WE learned what it means to BE PROACTIVE.
Mrs. Wallace, our guidance counselor talked with the class about  being proactive because I am in charge of me!
We will continue to learn more about being proactive and practicing that at school.
Please practice at home as well.
We are LEADERS everywhere we go.

In reading and writing we read another Pete The Cat book and completed some text to self writing.
Check out SEESAW!

In math, please ask your child to count as often as possible.
Show them teen numbers out of sequence and ask them to name them.

If you haven't turned in the field trip form and money, please do so by Monday.

Library books are due tomorrow!

Thanks so much!

Fun Times

Today was such a great day!
So many of my kindergarten friends surprised me with stories that they are writing and illustrating while at home.  It is marvelous to see this hard work happening everywhere!
During small group today while we were working on our rereads I introduced the children to the reading phone.  WOW! Was it a hit!
Many kids wanted to know where they could get one.
Any hardware store.
Reading Phone
Our focus during small group reading time has been the following reading strategies:
It is so important that the children practice using these as often as possible.
I am also working with many of my friends on one to one pointing when reading.
Ask your child to show you!

During small group time we are working on high frequency words.  Currently we are practicing reading and writing the following words: a,at,I, love, look (the o's look like eyes and we look with our eyes), my, the, you.
Ask your child to build these words with magnets, write them with chalk on the sidewalk, write them on sticky-notes and hang them in the house.

Ms. Miller has helped the children learn about Kelso's Choices.

First Day Fun Day

Today was a fun day in Rainbow Valley!
Our kindergarten friends were ready to learn and have fun.
We learned this week's nursery rhyme, Hey Diddle, Diddle.  Ask your child to tell you it.
We are working on rhyming this week.
Today our kindergarten friends met Ms. Booth our Guidance Counselor. Together we read The Kissing Hand.
We talked about our first day feelings.  We did a whole group writing activity and a small group writing activity.
We painted a special gift for our Moms and Dads that will go home tomorrow. We also worked on a retelling activity.
Please ask your child to tell you about the story.

Today we worked on raising our hands verses calling out.  Sitting in our own personal space and putting our work in the finish bin verses yelling out, "I'm done!"

Please remember to send your child to school with a full belly and a healthy snack and drink.
Check your child's folder and inital it each day.

Tomorrow is the first day of PE and Music.

I love you!

Feeling we had on our first day.
