Seven Habits Of Happy Kids

Today we started learning about the 7 Habits. 
WE learned what it means to BE PROACTIVE.
Mrs. Wallace, our guidance counselor talked with the class about  being proactive because I am in charge of me!
We will continue to learn more about being proactive and practicing that at school.
Please practice at home as well.
We are LEADERS everywhere we go.

In reading and writing we read another Pete The Cat book and completed some text to self writing.
Check out SEESAW!

In math, please ask your child to count as often as possible.
Show them teen numbers out of sequence and ask them to name them.

If you haven't turned in the field trip form and money, please do so by Monday.

Library books are due tomorrow!

Reminders...

100th Day is right around the bend!  Please send in your child's 100 items in a clear plastic 16-32oz. bottle. Please allow them to count out their items.  

Valentine, Oh Valentine...
Your child will needs to bring in their Valentine's on Friday, February 13th. 
Please don't address them just have your child write is or her own name. This makes for easier distribution. :) 

Library books are due back to school every Friday. 


Please sign and return your child's report card envelope by Thursday.

Book Fair Begins On Monday/House keeping!

Our class has been scheduled to visit the book fair Monday-Friday from 7:55-8:20.  You may accompany your child. If your child can spend their money with ease they may go themselves.  Mrs. Stinard and I will not be going with them.

Please send in your child's Admiral Reading Log as soon as possible.  Your tickets will come home as soon as all logs are in.  Homework, please send it in on Monday.  If your child has Sam the Snowman please return Sam and the writing log on Monday.  When your child brings home Sam please encourage them to write as many sentences as they can.  Please ask your child to reread to you and one to one point what he or she has written.  During our class time the children are writing 2 or more sentences daily. 

Pete The Cat

Our class chose to make Pete the Cat for our literary pumpkin!  We sure hope we win!

This year our room parents are C. Griffith and L. Fand.  They will be contacting you over the next few weeks and asking for you to volunteer your time and talents this school year.  
Please get involved. :)  
This week we are reviewing high frequency words the, my, I.  Please review these often.
During small group learning time the children learned how to log onto the computer and play a language art game on Starfall.com.  For many, this was a familiar site.  We will be visiting many learning sites throughout the year.  If you visit the John B. Dey webpage you can click on links that will take your child to many kindergarten learning sites. 
During small group we also worked on writing.  I am encouraging inventive spelling.  If your child asks you how to spell a word, work on sounding out the consonants together.  Vowels are tricky, so they will come later. If you see they can handle vowels, GO FOR IT! :)
I encourage daily writing and drawing at home.  For the month of September we don't have homework.  Writing and drawing in a daily at home journal is a great way to begin the homework routine.
Today, the children will check out library books.  Please return the books by their due dates.  They will visit the library every other Thursday for a lesson and check out.  If check out looks like it is going smoothly we will send them to the library in the mornings to return and check out as well.  Mrs. Hardesty, our librarian, will let us know when she feels the children are ready for this on their own. 
As you have seen we are working on writing "the school way," counting, and identifying the numbers 0-10 in and out of sequence during our math time.   Ask your child to share with you the number poems they have learned!  One of our kindergarten friends shared with the class that she we home and taught her daddy the poems!  :)

What's Happening?

Our kindergarten friends love hands-on learning!
We read a great story called How Big Is A Foot?  We discovered from that book that when we measure we must do it very carefully.
The children used non-standard measurement to measure various objects in the room. We talked about how when a person is measuring something the tool and the object must be lined up.

Mrs. Hardesty started a fabulous authors study on Donald Crews.

the children will be hearing stories writen by this amazing author.

Library Monday!

Please make sure your child brings in his or her library book on Monday.
They can check out a new one if they return a book.

Book Fair

Parents,
Feb. 6th-10th the book fair will be held in the library.
It will be open for our class from 7:45-8:10AM.  You are welcome to come to school with your child and go shopping during that time. We will not be taking them during instructional time to the book fair.
Please refrain from sending your child in with money to go to the fair instead join them and shop together February 6th-10th from 7:45-8:10AM.  We host it this way so that money is not lost and goods are safely purchased and taken home by our Rainbow Valley parents. :)

Fabulous Friday

Another great week has flown on by in Rainbow Valley!  I hope your child will share with you all that we have been learning in class. 


Today we went back to the library and checked out new books.  If your child did not return his/her book then they were not able to get a new one.  Please enjoy these books at home, once you've read them, fill out the reading log!!!  Many students are working on Reading Log number two!  Way to go!


If you have not returned your Mystery Reader form, please do so next week.


Thank you again for sharing your children with us.  We truly love seeing their smiling faces each and everyday!

Free Choice Writing Time

Today we had the opportunity to have "free choice" writing time.  As you can see by the pictures the students are having a grand time with their writing!


We also had our very first visit to the Library.  All students were able to check out books!  Please read the flyer that went home in your child's back-pack today regarding the library books.  Each student was so happy that they were able to actually borrow a book from our school library.  We hope everyone enjoys reading their books this weekend!

The Book Fair is Coming!

Parents: 
Please bring your child to a great family event on Saturday, December 11th from 8:30-11:30AM.
If you can not make that event you can join your child on December 6th and 7th from 10:30-10:45 (am class) and for the pm class 11:15-11:30 and shop with them at the book fair.  
Please note that the book fair is open each day, however we will not be using our instructional time to go to the book fair.  We have set aside these times for you to shop with your child.  

When: December 6th and 7th

Learning Time In Library

The children have been visiting the library each week for wonderful library lessons with Mrs. Hardesty.
Today they learned about a book series written by Cynthia Rylant.  We love learning about different authors!
