Subtracting Like Pirates and Then and Now
We have been immersed in subtraction.
The children love the song _If You Subtract With A Pirate!
The children love the song _If You Subtract With A Pirate!
Our final social studies unit has been about Then and Now, Past and Present
The children read many big books where we compared the past to the present. We discussed how we all have the same needs- Food, Water, Air, and Shelter but how they looked or how we got them may have been different. As a culminating activity the children completed a Venn Diagram where they compared two things from the past to the present.

Events
Tomorrow is dress like a PIRATE DAY! I am excited to see all of my little pirates!
Thursday- Field Day begins @ 8:30 and goes until 10:20.
Please remember the following:
Everyone is welcome!
Put sunscreen on your child in the am prior to sending them to school
It's going to be HOT- dress in shorts and t-shirts (our color is red)
If you don't want your child to get their t-shirt signed by classmates, remind them to not allow children to sign it
Many of you volunteered to bring in items- Lynnie F. will be outside waiting for your items.
I told the children that they can wear hats and sun glasses, but if they get tired of them, they have to carry them. One child said, "My Mom always says that." (Great minds think alike!)
If your child has to use the restroom me or Mrs. Stinard must walk them into the building. They know to come to us. We want everyone to be safe on this special day.
You must sign your child out on our sign out sheet if you are taking them home. See Me or Mrs. Stinard
Yes, you can take them home @ 10:20 if you would like to.
EDK- does not have Field Day, I have (fun) lessons planned for those who are staying.
Your child may get wet. I have explained to them that if they do not want to be wet to stay away from the water.
FRIDAY- The last day. :( (I cried last night, and I am sure I will again on Friday. My husband said, "It's that time of year again.") Your babies are my babies. Wow! Have they grown! I am so proud of them. It's difficult to let them go.
I am sending home a bag of surprises tomorrow for you and your child. (This is in lieu of a party. Our gifts last much longer and hopefully mean more to you. On Friday Mrs. Stinard and I have something special that we have made each of them, so yes, we are doing something special on Friday. Please send your child to school with their backpacks.

Summer Practice
Today your child came home with summer packets math books. Earlier in the week they came home with language arts and math packets and a journal. It is important that your child review their skills and strategies throughout the summer to keep their minds in the game. They need that balance of learning and playing during June, July, and August
This is an interesting article that was given to me a few years ago.

Your children love to read. If we miss a day of small group they ask why.
I love that they have this amazing drive to want to read. As of today every child in Rainbow Valley can read. They are on the path to stay reading on grade level. If you, as their parents make reading part of everyday this summer you are giving them the biggest gift!
