What we are learning!

This week we will continue to read fiction books and discuss:
CHARACTER
EVENTS
THE JOB OF THE AUTHOR AND THE ILLUSTRATOR
Some of our titles that we are reading this week are:

REMINDERS:

  • PLEASE RETURN THE PARENT INFORMATION FORM FOR OUR ROOM PARENTS BY TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH.
  • PLEASE RETURN THE 2ND PAGE OF THE FIELD TRIP LETTER AND THE BOTTOM PORTION OF THE SCHOOL LETTER THAT WAS SIGNED BY DR. SHEWBRIDGE. PLEASE DO NOT SEND BACK THE TOP PORTION.
  • WE CAN ONLY TAKE 10 CHAPERONES. PLEASE SEND IN THE EXACT AMOUNT OF MONEY OR A CHECK. IF YOU ARE NOT ONE OF THE 10 AND YOU SEND IN THE MONEY, WE WILL SEND IT BACK. IF IT IS A CHECK, WE WILL SEND BACK THE CHECK AND ASK FOR A NEW ONE WITH A DIFFERENT AMOUNT. (Sorry, we have no choice AND to be fair we do it by first come first serve. What does that mean? The first ten folders that have chaperones asking to volunteer will need to be the ten we take.)
  • BEHAVIOR CALENDARS SHOULD BE SIGNED DAILY BY AN ADULT AT HOME.
  • A NEW BOOK ORDER IS COMING HOME NEXT WEEK. NO MORE ORDERS WILL BE TAKEN FOR SEPTEMBER.

Mrs. Whitney our gifted resource teacher started her lessons with our class four weeks ago.
The children are learning to be observers. They are learning to use their five senses when making observations as scientists.  Today, they went out to our class garden. The children made observations using their five senses and they recorded their observations on a page that went home in their folders. Please ask them about this.
Tomorrow, we will continue to make more observations and record our findings.

Each day in writing and reading we are talking about the following sight words:
I LOVE LIKE ALL SEE THE

In writing this week, our shared writing will be learning and practicing the following sentence starters: I love_________, I like________, and I see_______.
We are learning to finger space and sound out our words using the beginning sounds.
For example, if I child would like to write I love my (we do that together), turtle. I am encouraging them to write the t in turtle, and if they hear the other letters to go for it!
We listen to this song to help us with our letter sounds. Image result for letter sounds chart

Image result for numbersToday we finished learning all of our number poems. A picture of our poem chart will come to you via Seesaw tomorrow. Please refer to this when your child is writing numbers.
We played a game today where I showed the children a number card and they needed to 1:1 count out their counters on the tens frame to match the number I was holding. This is how we will be assessing their one to one counting a number recognition early next week.  We will also be asking the children to write the numbers 0-10 out of sequence.
Check out this song! This is a great song to practice at home.

What's in a name? Many great letters are in a name. Ask your child to tell you the letters in their first and last name. :)  Each new day we are reviewing with the children how to write their names using the sky (the top line), the fence (the dotted line), the ground (the bottom line), and below that worm land.

Image result for starGoals! Each day I try to pull 3-5 students  to review their goal. Once they have reached their goal I will send home the sheet, and send home a picture of their new goal in Seesaw and or send home the paper. I am so impressed with how many students have already made progress on reaching their goals. We have even had some children complete their first goal and are on to their second goal!

This week's poem is TWINKLE, TWINKLE LITTLE STAR.
We are learning about rhyme and one to one pointing as we practice reading the poem.
Here is a link to practice.
