A Journey

If you haven't heard, we have been reading a fabulous book called The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.
Some of my kindergarten come in first thing and ask, "Are we reading about Edward today?"  This is music to my ears.   Once, in a house on Egypt Street, there lived a china rabbit named Edward Tulane. The rabbit was very pleased with himself, and for good reason: he was owned by a girl named Abilene, who adored him completely. And then, one day, he was lost. . . . Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. Along the way, we are shown a miracle -- that even a heart of the most breakable kind can learn to love, to lose, and to love again.

I thought is would be fun for the kids to blog with the help of our Rainbow Valley parents about this wonderful book. So, beginning today I am going to post a question or a statement about the story, and I encourage all responses. Will you be the first?
(If you have questions about how to respond send me an E-mail.)

QUESTION #1
Who was Edward's first owner?   How did he lose his first owner?

Learning and Growing

This week the children enjoyed getting their new class pets. Caterpillars. We have six Painted Lady Caterpillars that we are watching grow. The children are journaling their observations as they learn about life cycles.
We had a really exciting guest come to teach us about maps this week. Paige's Dad is a map maker. A cartographer.
This was a great way to end our unit on maps and globes. He shared with us some really interesting information.

Mother's Day

Your children took great pride in creating a watercolor master piece for you for Mother's Day.
As they were busily creating we snapped some pictures that will make you smile.

Thank YOU!

Dear Rainbow Valley Families,
We want to thank all of you so much for the lovely gifts, heartfelt cards, letters, and
E-mails for Teacher Appreciation Week.  We appreciate your kindness and generosity so much!
Our job is an amazing one to begin with and having supportive parents behind us makes our job that much more fun and amazing.
Your children are each unique and each one means so much to us. They have grown this year because you have allowed us to challenge them to be the BEST THEY CAN BE. They have shined this year and we know they will continue too!
Thank you again so much for making this week so special and for making each day a wonderful day in Rainbow Valley.
Love,
Mrs. Chiaverotti and Mrs. Stinard

You Are What You Eat!

Today we had a lesson all about attributes and taking parts to create a whole.
Mrs. Law began the lesson by reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The children had to create a caterpillar of their own.
For example, one student started off on Monday he ate a matress, on Tuesday he ate a a sheet, on Wednesday he ate another sheet, on Thursday he ate a pillow, on Friday he ate a blanket, on Saturday he ate another blanket, do you know what he turned into on Sunday?
I infer a bed!
