Learning and reading goals!

Wow! November was certainly a great month.  Many of our friends reached their monthly goals.
Today your child received their new goals.  Please begin working on these right away.

In math today we discussed the terms more, less, and same.  We created a group of objects and our friends made more. This will be our focus all week.
We also began working in My Book of Numbers Book. Here the children showed different ways to make 1.  This is our introduction to decomposing numbers. This is also a tool that we will be working on all week.

Can your child count to 100 without support?  This is one of our math skills for the 2nd grading period.

Each day we are working on identifying and writing teen numbers the "school way." The children are being asked to select numerals that match a corresponding set of objects.
ABCYA.COM has great teen number games!

Our brains were on break for a few days, but you would have never guessed that in here during writing today.  Today we read a beautiful story called The Best Family In The World.
Carlota, the main character wished for a family.  Before reading, we asked questions, as great readers ALWAYS DO ;), some of the children questioned why she would want a new family? What made her family great? Could she eat cake for breakfast? Doesn't that hurt her real families feelings?
As we read the story the children soon discovered the connection to wants and needs. They also made connections to wishes that they have.  In their journals they wrote and illustrated their wishes. WOW! All I can say is WOW!  The room was a buzz with children sounding out!!!!!
Ask your child what he or she wrote about today.  Perhaps at home they could write some more.
