Life Cycles- We change over time

At the beginning of the school year we started our journey with lessons on ALL ABOUT ME.  The children made discoveries about themselves.  They shared their strenghts and what they were most proud of upon entering kindergarten. They worked daily on being a great citizen in their classroom and as part of a community outside of school.
Our lessons will now return to ALL ABOUT ME and how they have changed over time.  We are starting our lessons with the Life Cycle of a Caterpillar with a side of good citizenship.
Today I read the story Charlie The Caterpillar.  Ask your child to share what he or she remembers about the story.

Creating A Garden Of Learning

We have taken our bean seeds and transplanted them. All of the childrens' seeds are growing by our windows.  They will journal their seed observations over the next few weeks.
Today we began an experiement with seeds.
One seed we will not give light, another, water, and the last we "built" buildings on top of the seeds. We discussed the impact of over building does to the enviroment.
The children predicted what the removable of the variables will cause.  They will make and record their observations over the next few weeks

Classroom Fun!

Our Kindergarten Friends are learning all about life cycles and taking care of our earth.
We had a wonderful guest speaker who taught the children all about recyling.  They learned about what can go into a recyling bin and what can not.  They were amazed that food containers such as pizza boxes, McDonald's wrappers, and small yogurt cups should never be recycled.  They were also taught to look at the bottom of a container to see it is a 1,2 type of container.  If it has a one or two, recycle it!
Every week a group of children go out to the class strawberry garden.  They are learning to take care of their garden so that they can harvest the strawberries in a few weeks.  Every child has the opportunity to go outside and enjoy this experience.  Thank you Mrs. S. for making this happen!
This week we started our unit on Living and Non-Living Things and Life Cycles.
The students planted their bean seeds.  They are making predictions about the beans growth and journaling their observations.
